Carib Cement Resumes Rockfort Operations; Helps with Hurricane Recovery Efforts

Caribbean Cement Company (Carib Cement) resumed cement dispatch operations at its Rockfort plant in Kingston, Jamaica, after conducting comprehensive safety checks and restoration work in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, reported the Jamaica Observer.

With robust inventory levels, including 10,000 tonnes of Carib Plus and 6,000 tonnes of high-early-strength cement, and both packing warehouses fully stocked, Carib Cement said it is well-positioned to meet market demand without any supply chain disruption. The company also holds more than 33,000 tonnes of clinker, enough to produce approximately 44,000 tonnes of cement.

“Our ability to resume the dispatch of cement so quickly after Hurricane Melissa is a testament to the strength of our safety protocols, the resilience of our operations, and the dedication of our people. By ensuring all silos and warehouses were secure and fully stocked, we are well-positioned to meet Jamaica’s construction needs without interruption,” said Managing Director Jorge Martinez.

Carib Cement also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national recovery efforts, pledging continued assistance to employees, contractors, and affected communities. The company is working with TCL Group and parent company Cemex on a fundraising initiative titled “Together for Jamaica.”

The campaign allows Cemex’s worldwide network of employees, customers, business partners, and other public stakeholders to contribute over a two-week period. All contributions will be matched by the company, with the combined proceeds donated to Food for the Poor, Jamaica’s largest charity organization, to assist with relief and rebuilding activities.

“The ‘Together for Jamaica’ campaign forms part of Cemex’s global disaster response framework, which mobilizes its workforce and partners to support affected countries through direct aid, matched donations, and community rebuilding projects,” said Managing Director of TCL Group Francisco Aguilera.
